Before couponing I would run into the grocery store grabbed what I needed and would checkout with not even thinking twice about how much I had spent or even grabbed. But now since couponing my shopping trips are a lot different. So how are they different now besides using coupons? I now make a list and stick to it and boy what a difference has it made not only in my savings but in what I buy and how much I buy of it. But the biggest challenged that I faced was sticking to it because I always seem to find that "one" item that I wanted and not needed. So now before I do my weekly shopping trip these are the things that I do:
I check to see what I am getting low on from my stock pile and see if any of the items are on sale or if I have any coupons for that particular item
I check to see what is on sale in the weekly circular that I need ( I actually take a high lighter or pen and circle that item)
I go through my coupons and pull out what I need, write coupon next to the items I circled in the circular and then I put those coupons in my little file folder under the category "for this shopping trip"
I make my shopping list including the price or sale price of the item and if I have a coupon for it, the value of the coupon, and how many coupons I have for that item
I do take the circular (the one where I circled the items) with me to the store because when I grab one from the front I find myself searching and searching for an item and with my circular all I have to do is look for the circles!
And most important I stick to my list! Granted I do have days where I might buy that "one" item but I always check first to see if I have a coupon or on sale...I have a hard time buying things that I don't have a coupon for or not on sale
Happy Couponing!
