I admit I am addicted to TLC's "Extreme Couponing"...every week I would stay up to watch it and thinking one day I will have a stockpile even though I had no idea where I would put it! Well one weekend my husband headed off to Home Depot to buy some supplies to fix our dryer and never thinking he would come back with something more than just the material that he needed. While on his way back he called me to tell me that he had a surprise for me and that no matter how hard I tried to think what it might be, I would have no clue! Well he was right! When he pulled up in the driveway I couldn't wait to see what he had bought me. Needless to say I was speechless when he pulled out shelving to help me start my stockpile! I was so happy! He even rearranged the laundry room to accommodate my shelves! So now that I have my shelves where did I start with my stockpile? I started with things that we needed especially with a two year who loves spaghetti, sloppy joes, and play-doh! My stockpile has grown quite a bit and I have to admit I love being able to walk downstairs and "shop" from my stockpile for breakfast, lunch, and dinner...Is it wrong to love my stockpile? Nah...
So what do I have in my stockpile? I stock things that I know I will need and use....I don't stock up on things that I know I won't need. The largest amount of items that I keep on hand are cereal, pasta sauce, pasta, egg noodles, and laundry detergent. I keep an eye on expiration dates, and I rotate putting the oldest up front and the newest in the back. I do keep tabs on what I am getting low and when I do I check the circulars to see what is on sale. Recently I was running low on laundry detergent and checked my local circulars to see what was on sale and what coupons I had. With the sale and coupons I had, I managed to save over 50% on the final cost of the detergent. With that kind of savings I stocked up and now I am good for the next several months.
Needless to say I am pretty proud of my growing stockpile and love being able to have things on hand that I need.
